To celebrate the advancement of collaborative publishing, we present the first annual Year In Wikis, a sort of yearbook celebrating some of the biggest moments in 2011, as seen through the eyes of Wikia’s community. You probably didn’t know it all started here, with informed, passionate community editors reflecting so much of what we experienced in 2011’s popular culture – creating their own awards shows, honoring game developers and generally showing us what’s about to trend up. In the first of this annual series, Wikia users share some of the most defining moments of the year.
2011 was an amazing year for the video games industry, not only with big blockbuster titles and record numbers of sales, but also with less-publicized or independent games getting the critical acclaim they deserve.
While many big titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Portal 2, The Elderscrolls V:Skyrim, and LA Noire will all end up on many "Best of" lists this year there was a great deal of other games that were also as good, if not better, that didn't get the publicity these games did.
